DMI Email

Accessing your email remotely

WebMail

The simplest way to access your email remotely is through WebMail. This is also called Outlook Web Access (OWA).

Outlook on your laptop

If you have a company laptop, you can read your email through Microsoft Outlook, but only when you are connected to the company VPN. Outlook can also be set up to use IMAP or POP; see below.

Accessing email through IMAP/POP

You can also access your email through any mail client using IMAP or POP, including Outlook and the mail client on many mobile phones. Details on how to set this up vary depending on the mail client, but here is the general information you will need:

  • For IMAP, if given the option, set up the account as an Exchange account. Clients other than Outlook may not support Exchange directly, and use a modified IMAP protocol to best connect to our server.
  • Incoming Mail Server: mail.digitalmanagement.net
  • SSL must be enabled for both POP and IMAP connections.
  • Use your domain username and password.
  • Outgoing mail server: mail.digitalmanagement.net
    • SSL must be enabled here as well.
    • You must use Password Authentication with your domain username and password here.
  • The Outlook Web Access Server is https://mail.digitalmanagement.net/owa.

IT can help with setting up Outlook and OS X Mail; many other clients can be used but we don't have direct experience with them.

IMAP limitations

Through IMAP you can access your mailbox and your public folders, but not your contacts or calendars. Calendar items will appear as email messages in a Calendar folder in your mailbox. You cannot directly create or respond to meeting invitations through IMAP, either.

Depending on your client, you may or may not be able to access the public folders.

POP limitations

By connecting through POP, you can only retrieve the mail that is in your Inbox, not in any of your subfolders in your mailbox. The above limitations with IMAP also apply.

ActiveSync for Exchange

Some mobile devices running Windows Mobile Edition can run a program called ActiveSync to synchronize email, contacts, and calendars. Contact IT for more details.
